The Director of Finance oversees the day-to-day financial operations of Wegner CPAs. The Director of Finance works closely with the Managing Partner and is responsible for financial planning, reporting, compliance, and ensuring the firm’s financial practices support growth, profitability, and operational efficiency.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Financial Strategy and Leadership
- Serve as a key member of the leadership team, providing financial insights to support organizational strategy.
- Assist in identifying financial risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
- Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support decision-making and to drive profitability and growth.
Financial Management and Reporting
- Oversee the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements.
- Manage cash flow, investments, and banking operations.
- Lead the development of annual budgets.
- Monitor firm profitability by practice area and client.
Accounting and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee billing, collections, accounts payable and payroll functions.
- Implement internal controls to safeguard assets and improve processes.
- Oversee preparation of firm’s tax returns and work with Wegner’s tax partner on preparing partnership tax return.
- Coordinate with external auditors for annual 401(k) audit and ensure compliance with regulations.
Firm Operations and Performance
- Develop and monitor key performance indicators to track utilization, realization, write-off, RPH, receivables, WIP, etc.
- Provide leadership with periodic financial and practice management reports to effectively and efficiently run their respective areas.
- Collaborate with HR and Operations on compensation structures, benefits, and resource allocation.
- Hire, train, mentor and develop finance team.
- Oversee Firm’s renewal of professional liability and other Firm insurance, not including employee benefits.
Required Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting.
Skills and Experience
- Minimum of ten years of experience in finance or accounting preferred
- CPA designation strongly preferred
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Demonstrated outstanding leadership skills
- Demonstrated outstanding time management skills, ability to multi-task, determine priorities
- Ability to operate independently and “self manage” multiple projects
- Ability to work with and meet deadlines
- Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to think innovatively and make suggestions for improvements
