We are seeking an experienced Tax Accountant to prepare 990’s, bookkeeping, and account reconciliation. Our ideal candidate will have the ability to work independently and as part of a team, have the ability to manage many client relationships, and to provide occasional bookkeeping services for 990 clients to reconcile accounts as part of preparation process.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and review Forms 990, 990-EZ, 990-PF, and related state filings
- Analyze financial statements and supporting schedules for nonprofit compliance
- Identify and resolve technical tax issues related to tax-exempt organizations
- Communicate directly with clients to gather information and explain filing requirements
- Manage multiple engagements and meet strict deadlines during peak seasons
- Review work prepared by staff accountants and provide coaching and feedback
- Research nonprofit tax issues and apply current IRS guidance
- Assist with IRS and state correspondence, notices, and audits as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- 3-5 years of significant Form 990 preparation
- Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting and tax-exempt regulations
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- CPA or EA strongly preferred
Preferred Experience
- Experience working with foundations, charities, and private foundations
- Reviewing junior staff work and mentoring team members
- Remote work experience and comfort with virtual collaboration tools
