NPO Connection | Dashboards and Key Financial Performance Indicators

Some nonprofit organizations might monitor financial performance solely by looking at the bottom line for the current fiscal year.  Other nonprofits may simply operate by looking at their cash position to assess their financial condition.  However, these numbers will only provide a small piece of the overall financial picture, and may not alert the organization’s management and board to potential future financial difficulties, or opportunities.  In this roundtable, we will discuss key financial indicators and ratios that will help you determine the financial strength of your organization, and how a dashboard may be valuable in communicating your financial information.  We will also discuss when these financial indicators and ratios may signal that action should be taken by your organization to help ensure financial health.

Our discussion leader will be Mike Habelwitz, CPA, Partner at Wegner CPAs.  Particularly interested in internal control issues, Mike enjoys helping his clients implement stronger internal controls to safeguard their assets and has provided services that resulted in uncovering fraud. In addition, Mike enjoys helping his clients identify strategies to streamline bookkeeping and making financial statements easier to understand. With more than 17 years’ experience, Mike provides clients with comprehensive and accessible services, including:

  • A diverse range of financial audits
  • Tax return preparation, with an emphasis on non-profit organizations
