Non-Profit Roundtable (Madison) | Board Challenges: How to Make Those Tough Decisions

A major factor in achieving success is building and engaging an effective and competent Board of Directors.

This session will focus on three major issues:

  • A process for recruiting and retaining effective Board members;
  • Dealing with the ineffective Board member;
  • Conducting a Board and Agency Assessment…making sure the ‘house is in order’; the Board’s role in making challenging governance decisions.

Participants will be provided the opportunity to schedule a 1-hour complementary one-on-one meeting with discussion leader, Boris Frank, to review their Agency Assessment and recommend steps the Board might take to resolve any difficult governance, management and administrative issues.

 

Boris has been a consultant and nonprofit administrator for over 50 years, President of his own firm since 1982, serving over 500 clients in the areas of fundraising and development, not-for-profit management and strategic planning. He has served as development and administrative counsel for over 150 capital campaigns, among them 85 public libraries, and such diverse organizations as the Dane County, Eau Claire and Lacrosse Humane Societies; Green Bay, Madison and Milwaukee  Botanical Gardens; and Executive Director of Madison’s Friends of the Vilas Zoo. From 1964 to 1982 he was on the faculty of The University of Wisconsin, serving as a Producer/Director and Manager of Administration and Special Projects for Wisconsin Public Television. Boris conducts workshops and seminars on Grantsmanship, Proposal Writing, Fundraising, Strategic Planning, Marketing, and Board and Volunteer Development. Over 35,000 have attended his courses throughout the country.

 

The Wegner Non-Profit Roundtable group meets bi-monthly from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.
