Tax Manager | Milwaukee Area Office

Under the direction of the Department Partner, the Tax Manager will provide tax services directly to clients, manage tax client relationships, participate in tax client services from other firm offices, supervise staff, take part in training and recruiting staff, assist with marketing and obtaining new clients, and be a part of the firm’s tax leadership team.

Wegner CPAs has committed firm resources to expand tax services in the Milwaukee market. Resources have been established for this new initiative from our Madison and Baraboo tax practices and include:

  • Tax Partners and Managers have committed hours to service the Milwaukee market.
  • Firm Partners and Managers will utilize referral sources to obtain new business in the Milwaukee market.
  • The Milwaukee office has established referral sources to participate in the expansion of services in this geographic market.
  • The Firm has an established Tax Committee with members from all offices. The Tax Manager from Milwaukee will participate on this committee.
  • There are electronic systems in place for ease of data transfers between offices.
  • The marketing and development budget has made a commitment to service expansion.
  • A formal business plan has been approved by Partners and Senior Managers.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Proficiency in business (corporate and flow through entities) and individual tax preparation.
  2. Involvement in planning and managing large, more complex tax engagements.
  3. Recognized expertise in an area of tax; serve as an internal resource in this area.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  1. Continued effectiveness as a relationship manager, including large, complex engagements.
  2. Acceptance of department management responsibilities, e.g. for oversight of scheduling, team management and staff development, accounting systems (efficient and effective procedures), and training.
  3. Serve as mentor to one or more supervisors and demonstration of promise in development of senior staff.
  4. Effective participation in firm- or department-wide management activities, including strategic planning with partners, and decision-making about staff promotion, hiring, and firing.

Marketing and Networking Responsibilities

  1. Participation in client and non-client networking events.
  2. Effective involvement in associations or activities related to one’s chosen niche or sector.
  3. Participate in acquiring new engagements with existing clients and new clients.
  4. Participate in firm’s marketing plan.

Certifications Required

Certified Public Accountant and/or other professional certifications.

Required Skills and Experience

  1. Minimum of six (6) years’ experience in tax services.
  2. Outstanding leadership skills with demonstrated ability to perform as a leader.
  3. Ability to motivate, mentor and develop staff and teams in a team driven environment.
  4. Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  5. Demonstrated proactive business development practices including participation in professional organizations, maintaining relationships with existing and prospective clients.
  6. Outstanding interpersonal skills.
  7. Efficient in completing multiple projects within time budgets.
  8. Commitment to professional development and outstanding technical competencies.

Public Contact

Extensive work interacting both by phone and face to face with clients and staff.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in a typical interior/office work environment-very limited exposure to physical risk.  Equipment used: computer, fax machine, telephone, copier and scanner.

Physical Demands

Essential demands include sitting/standing at a desk, working on a computer for long periods of time and using a telephone to communicate with clients and staff.

Work Hours

Additional work hours will be expected during tax season (approximately January 15- April 15) and reduced hours are available in off season.
