Wegner CPAs is looking for an experienced non-profit auditor that is ready to provide outstanding service to our clients. This position will be based in our Madison office.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Professional Competence and Technical Skill

  • Analytical ability and knowledge of accounting principles; specialize in certain areas or expertise.
  • Serve as a resource for others in and outside of the firm; e.g., technical review of tax returns, financial statements, or compliance (audit) areas; provide IT assistance to staff; develop consulting expertise (e.g., in QuickBooks) or audit system expertise (e.g., paperless audits or financial statement preparation); participate in internal and external training opportunities.
  • Effectively plan larger, more complex audit engagements to avoid over-auditing while ensuring that sufficient, competent evidence is obtained in the audit.
  • Budget consciousness: responsible for preparing audit budgets and monitoring actual vs. budgeted costs to complete the work.
  • Responsible for exit conferences and oral presentations to members of the Board of Directors.
  • Perform detailed technical review and give review comments along with positive and constructive feedback to staff and Senior Accountants.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

Supervision and Communication

  • Serve as a relationship manager with clients on whom one has served as in-charge auditor; good business sense in advising clients on financial matters.
  • Serve as a leader in the firm, including responsibility for serving as a mentor or supervisor to other staff, providing critical feedback, and providing staff members with opportunities to grow professionally and develop their skills.
  • Delegate effectively to staff; provide training to less experienced staff as necessary.
  • Contribute to department management by engaging thoughtfully in scheduling and other management activities with colleagues (other supervisors and managers).

Marketing /Business Development

  • Increase attendance at client events and networking relationships with prospects and referral sources through active involvement in industry, community and social activities.
  • Develop a marketing plan and obtain training as needed in marketing.
  • Identify niches or sectors in which to develop contacts, begin attending non-client events in these niches or sectors, or begin active membership in relevant associations.
  • Participate in responding to Request for Proposals (RFPs) and new client proposals.

Professional Development

  • Demonstrate technical competency, supervisory skills, effective personal time management skills and strong business and management judgment.

Recruitment

  • Actively uses contacts to attract quality, experienced staff from other CPA firms or related business.

Required Skills and Experience

  1. Minimum of 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  2. Proficient in Excel.
  3. Demonstrated proficiency in use of general ledger accounting software.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP
  5. Knowledge of depreciation methods and lives.
  6. Demonstrated ability to relate well to and manage clients.
  7. Demonstrate advanced team skills, including effective supervision of staff.
  8. Demonstrated effective teamwork and leadership skills
  9. Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  10. Demonstrated efficiency in completing multiple projects within limited time budgets.

Required Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.

Certifications Required

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required.

Public Contact

Extensive work interacting both by phone and face to face with clients and staff.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in a typical interior/office work environment-very limited exposure to physical risk.  Equipment used: computer, fax machine, telephone, copier and scanner.

Physical Demands

Essential demands include sitting at a desk, working on a computer for long periods of time and using a telephone to communicate with clients and staff.

Work Hours

Typical business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. Additional work hours will be expected during peak season.
