Wegner CPAs is looking for an entry-level Staff Accountant with 0-3 years experience to perform non-profit audit work resulting in a high level of client satisfaction.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Professional Competence and Technical Skills

  • Responsible for technical proficiency (10 key Calculator, Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, ProSystem Trial Balance, Tax, Fixed Assets, T-Value Calculator, Checkpoint Tools) Stay current on technical issues and apply them to client circumstances.
  • Responsible for performing basic auditing procedures (cash, investments, payables, fixed assets, debt, and compliance); proficient in more advanced auditing procedures (receivables, revenue analysis, analytical review, advanced compliance auditing).
  • Prepare basic financial statements using appropriate software. Preparation of statements of cash flows and basic footnotes.
  • Apply basic accounting concepts and financial statement relationships, i.e., the relationship between expense and related prepaid expense accounts, and between expense and related accrual accounts.
  • Prepare work paper use and explanation of tick marks and cross-referencing; prepare memos to document audit procedures.
  • Prepare not-for-profit or for-profit tax returns.
  • Complete audit programs without over-auditing and proper completion and documentation of extended procedures and checklists.
  • Test internal controls and offer methods for improvement when deficiencies found.
  • Write audit letters, including drafting management letter comments.

Supervision and Communication

  • Work under direct supervision of the In-Charge. Communicate with In-charge about matters relating to the job. Keep In-charge informed of progress and whereabouts.
  • Interact in a courteous and professional manner while dealing with all level of client personnel.
  • Work cooperatively and respectfully with a variety of colleagues
  • Demonstrate initiative, especially a willingness to learn.
  • Accept constructive criticism without defensiveness.
  • Work independently; instruction is not required repeatedly in the same tasks.
  • Ask questions and learn from In-charge or supervisor.
  • Effectively communicate with clients and work paper preparation.
  • Complete internal documents and checklists timely and accurately (To-do lists, Outlook calendar, correct coding of time in Time Entry).
  • Utilize all resources to accurately complete assignments and answer questions.
  • Notify Supervisors in advance of availability when not assigned to projects.

Marketing/Business Development

  • Actively listens to clients needs for additional services and forwards leads to Department Partner.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships (i.e., network) with client personnel and members of the Board of Directors.
  • Regularly attend networking events and/or fundraisers held by clients.
  • Participate in Firm social functions such as the holiday party, seasonal gatherings and Firm socials.
  • Understanding of Firm services and niche markets.
  • Promote Firm’s image and culture.

Professional Development

  • Prepare to pass the CPA exam or other professional certification examinations.
  • Cooperate with others assigned to an engagement team.
  • Stay current with Continuing Professional Education requirements.
  • Averages 1,800 chargeable hours and 2,200 total hours per year.
  • Represents Firm well by appropriate attire and behavior.

Recruitment

  • Utilizes contacts in identifying qualified candidates for the Firm.
  • Willing participates with recruitment tasks such as attending college career fairs.

Required Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.

Certifications Required

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is desirable.

Required Skills and Experience

  1. Minimum of one to two years experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  2. Proficient in Excel.
  3. Demonstrated proficiency in use of general ledger accounting software.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP.
  5. Knowledge of depreciation methods and lives.
  6. Demonstrated ability to relate well to clients.
  7. Demonstrated effective teamwork and leadership skills
  8. Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  9. Demonstrated efficiency in completing multiple projects within limited time budgets.

Public Contact

Extensive work interacting both by phone and face to face with clients and staff.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in a typical interior/office work environment-very limited exposure to physical risk.  Equipment used: computer, fax machine, telephone, copier and scanner.

Physical Demands

Essential demands include sitting at a desk, working on a computer for long periods of time and using a telephone to communicate with clients and staff.

Work Hours

Typical business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm. Additional work hours will be expected during audit season.
