Senior Accountant | Tax & Business Services | Baraboo Office

Under general direction, the Senior Accountant is responsible for achieving and maintaining a high level of client satisfaction by providing accounting and tax services to our customers. The position requires working with multiple clients simultaneously.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and maintain strong client relationships with new and existing clients.
  2. Build accounting client services engagements for gathering financial data, compiling information and preparing reports.
  3. Coordinate team workload on these accounting services engagements, provide assistance to team as needed and ensure all deadlines are met. Team tasks include:
    • Using a variety of accounting software including Peachtree, QuickBooks, Intacct, to enter bills, prepare payments and record deposits
    • Make adjusting journal entries
    • Electronically import and export client data
    • Reconcile cash and prepare bank reconciliations
    • Prepare interim financial statements including supplementary schedules
    • Prepare 1099’s
  4. Act as controller for multiple clients by providing the business or non-profit with the appropriate financial and operating information necessary to successfully manage their organization.
  5. Prepare tax returns including 1120, 1120S, 1065, Sales Tax, Personal Property Tax.
  6. Plan and execute annual compilation engagements to include supplementary schedules and statement of cash flows.
  7. Prepare and organize appropriate workpapers.
  8. Complete projects efficiently within established time budgets

Supervisory Responsibilities:


Required Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting

Required Skills/Experience:

  1. Minimum of three to five years experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  2. Proficient in Excel.
  3. Proficient in ProSystems Tax, Fixed Assets and Engagement software.
  4. Demonstrated proficiency in use of general ledger accounting software.
  5. Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP
  6. Knowledge of depreciation methods and lives.
  7. Demonstrated ability to relate well to clients.
  8. Demonstrated effective teamwork and leadership skills
  9. Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  10. Demonstrated efficiency in completing multiple projects within limited time budgets.

Certifications Required:

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is desirable.

Public Contact:

Extensive work interacting both by phone and face to face with clients and staff.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed in a typical interior/office work environment-very limited exposure to physical risk.  Equipment used: computer, fax machine, telephone, copier and scanner.

Physical Demands:

Essential demands include sitting at a desk, working on a computer for long periods of time and using a telephone to communicate with clients and staff.

Work Hours:

Typical business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm. Additional work hours will be expected during tax season (approximately January 15- April 15).
