Supervisor | Baraboo Office

POSITION MISSION

Under general direction, the Supervisor is responsible for supervising and mentoring Staff Accountants and assisting in providing review, compilation, and various accounting and tax services to Wegner CPAs clients.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Prepare complex business tax returns, compilations and reviews.

2. Research client questions and provide useful business advice to clients.

3. Serve as a resource for others in and outside of the firm by reviewing individual tax returns and financial statements.

4. Take increasing level of responsibility for managing clients. Suggest and communicate tax planning ideas to clients.

5. Participate in internal and external training opportunities.

6. Develop a marketing plan and obtain training as needed in marketing.

7. Increase attendance at client events.

8. Identify niches or sectors in which to develop contacts, begin attending non-client events in these niches or sectors, or begin active membership in relevant associations.

9. Participate in new client proposals.

10. Assume the responsibilities of a relationship manager.

11. Demonstrate for serving as a mentor to team members, providing critical feedback, and keeping team members supplied with work.

12. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervisory responsibility for one to two Staff Accountants on larger engagements. Also responsible for evaluating the performance of Staff Accountants and recommending training needs.

REQUIRED EDUCATION

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

1. Minimum of five (5) years experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified:

  • Providing thorough analyses and sound accounting advice
  • Performing analytical and detailed work with numerical data and making computations rapidly and accurately
  • Preparing routine and proceduralized financial reports and records
  • Examining and verifying financial documents and reports
  • Working independently from general instructions
  • Communicating clearly and concisely, orally and in writing
  • Working in a fast-paced environment;
  • maintaining good client relations and providing excellent customer service

2. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, computerized general ledger packages; Creative Solutions, Peachtree and/or Great Plains preferred.

3. Prior supervisory experience.

4. Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP.

5. Demonstrated effective teamwork and leadership skills.

6. Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.

7. Demonstrated efficiency in completing multiple projects within limited time budgets.

8. Previous experience working in a public accounting firm desirable.

CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required.

PUBLIC CONTACT

Extensive work interacting both by phone and face to face with clients and staff.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed in a typical interior/office work environment-very limited exposure to physical risk. Equipment used: computer, fax machine, telephone, copier and scanner.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Essential demands include sitting at a desk, working on a computer for long periods of time and using a telephone to communicate with clients and staff.

WORK HOURS

Typical business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm. Additional work hours will be expected during tax season (approximately January 15- April 15).
