Benefit Plan Auditor | Assurance Department (Madison Office)
POSITION MISSION
Under general direction, the Benefit Plan Auditor is responsible for coordinating and performing superior benefit plan audit work resulting in a high level of client satisfaction.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Examine the administration of audited client benefit plan by:
- Identify fiduciary responsibility
- Analyzing controls over plan operation processes including eligibility determination procedures
- Analyzing contributions, investments and benefit payments and expenses
- Preparing financial statements and management communication letters, etc.
- Preparing advanced financial statements such as complex supplementary schedules, footnote disclosures, etc.
Supervision of the engagement budget
Coordinate timing and performance of the engagement procedures
Develop professional relationships and networking with client personnel, potential clients, and other CPAs
Prepare informative management letters and other communications with clients
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
Provide direction to engagement staff and serve as a mentor.
REQUIRED EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
1. Minimum of two (2) years audit experience required
2. Experience working in the benefit plan audit sector is required
3. Ability to interact with clients, prospects, all levels of staff, and colleagues in a professional fashion
4. Experience providing thorough analyses and sound accounting advice
5. Ability to perform analytical and detailed work with numerical data and making computations rapidly and accurately
6. Experience working independently from general instructions
7. Ability to clearly and concisely, orally and in writing
8. Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service
9. Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP
10. Demonstrated effective teamwork and leadership skills
11. Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
12. Demonstrated efficiency in completing multiple projects within limited time budgets
13. Previous experience working in a public accounting firm desirable
CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED
CPA or CPA in progress preferred.
PUBLIC CONTACT
Extensive work interacting both by phone and face to face with clients and staff.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in a typical interior/office work environment-very limited exposure to physical risk. Equipment used: computer, fax machine, telephone, copier and scanner.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Essential demands include sitting at a desk, working on a computer for long periods of time and using a telephone to communicate with clients and staff.
WORK HOURS
Typical business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm. Additional work hours will be expected during periods of increased workloads.
